Planning & Responsibility

The wicked stomach flu that has been going around hit our house hard this past month. I’ve been the only one to escape its wrath.

For the week that Anne was out of commission, I got a trial by fire in what she does on a daily basis. Without her, the wheels fell off the tracks quickly. One day I made three trips to the school. Once you do that, there really isn’t much else you can get done. Another day was a trip to the ER, two trips to school, and soccer practice. Our kids are in a cooperative school, so they’re homeschooled two days a week. I got to experience the amount of work and preparation it takes to not only run the household but educate our kids.

Not sure how she does this.

It reminds me of a story another advisor told me about when his kids were young. One weekend, his wife went out of town, and he was home with his two kids for 3 straight days. The first thing he did when got back to the office on Monday was find out how much life insurance he could purchase on his wife.

There have been several studies that have attempted to value homemakers’ contributions, I’ve seen them as high as $100,000 per year. And this doesn’t include the value of specialization, which increases the productivity and income potential of the other spouse.

Moms work the equivalent of 2.5 times the average work week (98 hours per week) and get about 1 and 7 minutes to themselves a day.

Studies also show that working moms still shouldering the majority of the work at home.

As we get closer to the summer, take some time to schedule a review. www.calendly.com/andreweppes/review

I hope everyone has a Happy Mother’s Day!
